Objectives
The Department of English at Daffodil International University , as has been mentioned, offers two programs-- Bachelor of Arts in English and Master of Arts in English. These two programs aim not only at providing modern and practical education in English but also preparing learners as well-groomed professionals to meet the demand for national and international world. These two programs also aim at
|
1. Imparting standard British and American English
2. Teaching learners to read more logically
3. Teaching students to think more critically and analytically
4. Teaching students to write more efficiently
5. Teaching students spoken English techniques.
6. Teaching students basic research techniques
7. Teaching students the basics of reading, speaking, writing, and writing a foreign language.
8. Introducing students to the major literary movements and periods, films, genres, authors and representative work and
critical theories.
9. Facilitating an understanding of other countries and cultures.
10. Preparing students for professional study
11. Encouraging students to work on student publications.
The demand of English is very wide as the contemporary world is advancing with the spirit of multidimensional globalization. The output of the Department will surely find wide and varied job prospects in the country and beyond. The following shows some prominent fields where the Graduates in English may find jobs
Program Introduction
Bachelor of Arts (B.A (Hon's) In English) Program:
The Bachelor of Arts (Hons.) in English is a four-year degree program conducted by the Department of English at Daffodil International University . The course contents cover the major British authors and their significant works along with major areas relating to language studies. Beside, ancient classical European literatures from America and the Continent have been included in the Syllabus. Further, courses from six other disciplines- Bangla, Computer Science, History of Europe, Business Communication, Anthropology, Western Philosophy and Principles of Accounting have been integrated into the program.
The program is spread over 04 (Four) academic years (Levels) and 12 (Twelve) semesters. It consists of 125 (One hundred and twenty five) credits and 40 (Forty) courses in total. Courses are categorized as
General Education Course and
Core Course.
The term General Education Course refers to courses on disciplines other than English integrated into the program.
However, in each level (year) each student will be working on a particular project under the supervision of a teacher. He/she will continue working on the project all through three semesters and submit his/her final report towards the end of the year. The course comprises 03(three) credits. Towards the end of the program – in the fourth year – he/she will have to conduct a research under the guidance of a teacher and present a dissertation, which amounts to 08(twelve) credits . A special feature of this program is that students will have to use the language laboratory as and when the course teachers would advise them.
Admission Process:
Students will be selected on the basis of past academic records and performance in admission test. Applicants finally accepted for the program will be notified of acceptance and registration within specific date. They will have to produce original certificate/ testimonials and mark sheets /transcripts for all examinations passed at the time of admission. Candidates who have completed the above formalities will have to pay the requisite admission and other fees for enrollment.
There will be three intakes in every year, during the month of –
i.) January ii.) May & iii.) September.
Admission Requirement: 1. Minimum second division or GPA of 2.5 in both S.S.C and H.S.C examinations (Science/ Humanities/ Social Science and Commerce group) is required.
2. 05 subjects in ‘O' level and 2 subjects in ‘A' level with minimum GPA 2.5 in each level or equivalent is required.
