Master of Arts (Preliminary) in English Program.

Introduction:M.A. (Preliminary) in English has been developed in order to orient the students who would be interested to obtain Master Degree in the discipline. The program will be conducted by the Department of English under the Faculty of Business and Economics. The primary purpose of the program is to open opportunity for the students who have obtained B.A. or B.Sc. or B.Com or B.S.S. or equivalent degree and are willing to obtain M.A. in English. The program aims to impart adequate primary knowledge of English Literature in general that would lead them to M.A. Final Program. So this Program is virtually a precondition to M.A. Final in English. It has been planned with such a curriculum that it is expected to cover the important areas of contemporary English Literature so that the students find themselves adequately equipped with initial knowledge required for launching M.A. program in the discipline to be done at the end of the Semesters. The Courses have been designed with materials from English, American and Postcolonial literatures. Besides, there are Courses on Linguistics, Bengali Literature and Computer Science in order to provide the students with some basic knowledge of the disciplines for their career development.
The program has been divided into three Semesters of four months each. In each Semester selected another, texts and topics are taught from different areas of English Literature. The total program will be of 36 Credits. The department offers altogether 11 (Eleven) Courses of which 03 Credits have been kept for Report Writing or Tutorial Writing or Project Writing/ Dissertation. The university library is already in possession of sufficient number of books (text and reference) necessary.

Admission Requirements:
A person having B. A. or B. Com. or B. Sc .or B.S.S.or M. Com or MBA or M.B.B.S. degree is fit to seek admission to M.A.(Preliminary) Program, but s/he must have had minimum one English courses at undergraduate studies. Or else s/he has to pass English Language and Communication (of one semester) is for meeting the pre-requisite qualification for admission to M.A. (Preliminary) Program. Those who have such Certificate Course passed from any recognized university are eligible to seek admission. It may be mentioned that this course of three- month length (one semester) is being offered here in order to help students meet the requirement for admission into M.A. (Preliminary) in English.
There will be three intakes in every year, during the month of –
i.) January ii.) May & iii.) September
