Daffodil International University Celebrates 6th Founding Anniversary

 

Daffodil International University celebrated its sixth founding anniversary through day-long festivities on March, 18, 2008. More than three thousand students and teachers gathered at Dhanmondi Women Sports Complex to celebrate the day. The day’s programmed included inaugural ceremony, fun events and cultural function. 

Justice Latifur Rahman, former Chief Advisor of the Caretaker Government, addressed the inaugural ceremony as chief guest while Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman, Board of Governors of DIU, presided over. Professor Dr. Aminul Islam, Vice Chancellor of DIU, delivered welcome speech and Professor Dr. M. Mizanur Rahman, Registrar, gave vote of thanks. The ceremony was also addressed by Professor M. Shahjahan Mina, Advisor, Faculty of Business and Economics, Professor Dr. M. Lutfar Rahman, Dean, Faculty of Science and Information Technology and Professor Dr. Golam Rahman, Dean, Faculty of Humanities and Social Science. Justice Latifur Rahman praised the academic activities of the university and hoped that it would be able to disseminate education duly to produce good citizens. He mentioned that a good university is motivated with the national interest rather than commercial interest. Professor Aminul Islam said DIU started its journey in 2002 with only 68 students and now the number has risen to about 5,000. It has now three faculties and 14 departments, all run by qualified teachers.  

Sabur Khan emphasized the need of making good graduates with balanced education involving both curricular and extra-curricular activities. He noted that the country needs brilliant leaders and entrepreneurs who may come from the Daffodil International University. In the morning DIU brought out a colorful procession which moved from the university main campus at Sukrabad to Women Sports Complex at Dhanmondi. In the afternoon a cultural function was held with the participation of student and teacher artistes.
