DIU Organized the Workshop on Citizen Journalism

A daylong discussion and workshop on “Citizen Journalism” was jointly organized by bdnews24.com and the Department of Journalism & Mass Communication of DIU on February 16, 2017 at DIU auditorium to mark the sixth anniversary of bdnews24.com. Mr. Mohammad Sayeed Khokhon, Mayor, Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), Professor Dr. M. Golam Rahman, Chief Information Commissioner of Bangladesh, Mr. Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman, Board of Trustees and Professor Dr. Yousuf Mahbubul Islam, Vice Chancellor of Daffodil International University, Poet Muhammad Nurul Huda, Editor, arts, bdnews24.com, Mr. Selim Ahmed, Head, Department of JMC, were present as the honorable guests in the program. Mr. Robaet Ferdous, Associate Professor and Mr. Fahmidul Haque, Associate Professor of Department of Mass Communication and Journalism of University of Dhaka were present as the keynote speakers of the workshop on ‘Citizen Journalism’.


The workshop observed that there is a need to be united to solve the civic problem. The Dhaka South City corporation has freed the footpath of Gulisthan and Motijheel occupied by the hawkers and gradually all the footpaths of Dhaka will be freed. Beside this, rehabilitation program for the registered hawkers has undertaken. By this time 5 holiday market have been introduced of which 3 has been gaining popularity.
Citizen Journalism does not mean only to uphold the problems, but also to provide relevant solution of it. By the blessings of modern ICT facilities, Citizen Journalism has gained momentum and effective now a days.
The workshop helped the citizen to be aware of the citizen journalism concept where any citizen can play a role as journalists through providing evidence-based news, problems and their probable solutions to the media both print and electronic.
