Warm Welcome to the NFE Family: A Recap of Spring Orientation 2024

The Nutrition and Food Engineering (NFE) Department started the Spring semester in grand style with a vibrant Orientation Program on February 5th, 2024. The event was held at the prestigious Daffodil International Conference Room in the Knowledge Tower to officially welcome all the new students who dream of becoming food engineers and nutritionists.

The program was honored by the esteemed presence of Professor Dr. Md. Bellal Hossain, Dean of the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences, and Associate Professor Dr. Nizam Uddin, the Head of the NFE Department. Dedicated faculty members from the department added their radiance and significance by joining the festivities. Dr. Md. Bellal Hossain (Professor) and Dr. Nizam Uddin (Associate Professor) shared their invaluable insights, outlining how the next four years can be a transformative journey shaping the students' prosperous future. Assistant Professor Md. Juwel Rana, a respected faculty member, further equipped the incoming students with comprehensive guidance on the university's rules and regulations, ensuring a smooth transition into academic life. New students were warmly greeted and adorned with flowers, a gesture of welcome extended by their enthusiastic seniors. This welcoming gesture set the stage for a supportive learning environment. The program concluded on a high note with a melodious song by a senior lecturer, leaving a lasting impression on the new students. This Orientation Program served as a springboard for the new NFE students, with a sense of belonging, excitement, and clarity fostered by the orientation Program, the new NFE students are now ready to embark on their academic journey.

The NFE Department is also excited to see these new students grow and become successful in the coming years! We're here to support them every step of the way. Welcome to our NFE family!

World Food Safety Day-2023: Food Standards Save Lives

The Department of Nutrition & Food Engineering (NFE) at Daffodil International University
(DIU), Bangladesh, festively celebrated World Food Safety Day-2023 on 7 th June with the
participation of more than five hundred students. This event, organized by the department, aimed
to raise awareness about the importance of ensuring food safety and promoting sustainable food
practices. The celebration of World Food Safety Day-2023 at NFE, DIU, was a grand affair that
brought together students, faculty members, industry experts, and professionals from various
fields related to food safety.
Professor Dr. M. A. Rahim, a fruit scientist, also joined the rally and discussion session with the
faculty members to discuss different food safety issues.
Every year, 600 million people get sick due to the 200 different types of illnesses that can be
transmitted by food. Young people and populations with limited resources are among the most
affected. Foodborne illnesses cause 420,000 preventable deaths every year.
Professor Dr. M. Bellal Hossain, Dean of the Faculty of Allied Health Science, gave his valuable
speech and the role of graduates in ensuring food safety.
This year's theme is "Food Standards Save Lives". Standards not only provide farmers and
processors with guidance on the hygienic handling of food, but also define maximum levels of
additives and contaminants, among other components, that can be safely consumed.
And also, Dr. Nizam Uddin, Head of the Department of Nutrition and Food Engineering, give his
welcome speech on World Food Safety Day.
The successful celebration of World Food Safety Day-2023 by the Department of Nutrition &
Food Engineering (NFE), Daffodil International University (DIU), underscored the institution's
commitment to promoting food safety and creating awareness among students and the wider
community. By organizing such events, the department continues to play a vital role in nurturing
future professionals who will ensure our food systems' safety and sustainability. Overall, this
event served as a platform to educate, inspire, and empower individuals to make informed
choices and take action towards building a safer and healthier food environment for all.
Thanks to the dedicated efforts of policymakers, food safety authorities, farmers, food business
operators, cooks, scientists, teachers, students and consumers, to play active role in making safe
food for all.

Community Outreach activity was undertaken by the final-year students (201 batch) of the Department of Nutrition and Food Engineering, DIU

The students visited several primary schools in Birulia, Savar area and Daffodil Institute of Social Sciences - DISS to disseminate nutritional knowledge among primary school-going children, aiming to create awareness about the importance of nutrition and promote healthy habits through interactive and engaging methods such as role-play, poster presentations, quizzes and games. 
 
The students effectively transported the significance of a balanced diet and essential nutrients. They also emphasized the importance of physical activity and distributed informational materials to the children, ensuring that the knowledge reached the wider community. The initiative showcases the students' obligation to their social responsibility and serves as an inspiration for others to engage in similar activities.
 
The Department of Nutrition and Food Engineering, DIU firmly believe that the social responsibility demonstrated by its students inspires others to get involved in community service projects, resulting in the development of a future generation that is healthier and more informed.

Industrial visit at Transcom Beverages Ltd. (Pepsi)

đź’ The Department of Nutrition and Food Engineering,DIU has organized an industrial visit at Transcom Beverages Ltd. (Pepsi) Mouchak, Kaliakoir, Gazipur on 27th May, 2023. Around 90 students of different batches along with 4 (four) faculty members of the Department were present during the visit.
 
đź’˘Aimed at fostering industry-academia networking and providing practical experience to the students, this visit was an incredible opportunity for them to witness the real-world applications of their knowledge.The Students have learned about the latest technologies used in water & beverage and its packaging in Transcom Beverages Ltd. (Pepsi)

Awareness building event on “Breast Cancer Awareness & Screening Program”

We are pleased to invite you in the awareness building event on “Breast Cancer Awareness & Screening Program” on 30th November 2022 (Wednesday) from 12:30 PM - 03:00 PM, at International Conference Hall, AB4, Daffodil Smart City, Ashulia, Savar, Dhaka 1341.

 

The event will be jointly organized by the Department of Nutrition and Food Engineering (NFE) and PUSTIGYAN (an association of NFE students) in collaboration with Global Health Research Center.

 

Prof. Dr. Habibullah Talukder Ruskin, Head, Department of Cancer Epidemiology, National Institute of Cancer Research and Hospital will be present as keynote speaker and renowned Public Health Expert Dr. Abu Jamil Faisel will also be present as a speaker.

 

The Honorable Vice Chancellor of Daffodil International University, Professor Dr. M. Lutfar Rahman will grace the event as Chief guest. Honorable Pro-Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr. S. M. Mahbub Ul Haque MajumderProfessor Dr. Mostafa Kamal, Dean, Academic Affairs; Dr. Mohammed Nadir Bin Ali, Registrar; Prof. Dr. Md. A group of NFE students visited Training Institute for Chemical Industries (TICI) on 08th November 2022 as Industrial Tour. Where they practically learn lots of unit operations involved in Food Industries and also they gather knowledge of Quality control and Instrumental Techniques like as ICPMS, AAS, HPLC, MS etc.

Awareness building event on “Waste management and Inclusiveness”

NFE Faculties Visited the Universities Hall Kitchen to ensure the Hygiene

The Department of Nutrition and Food Engineering of Daffodil International University visited the universities hall kitchen to ensure the hygiene concern which is organized by DIU NFE CLUB.
They talked and advised the chiefs,employees and stuffs how to maintain hygienic method while cooking! They also talked about storage, refrigeration etc.Moreover, they talked about nutrition,how to keep dishes clean,how to preserve food in a healthy way, how to cook food properly etc! Besides, they talked about hygiene and sanitation, personal hygiene of the kitchen staff!
They also On the concern of the respective campaign they attach some banner on the kitchen and canteen area for awareness.
They all try to make them aware about all these topics!

MoU Signing between NFE and Human Development Research Centre (HDRC)

The Department of Nutrition and Food Engineering under the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, Daffodil International University is one of a leading department in the field of food and nutrition in Bangladesh. With the vision to provide a student-centered learning environment and develop their potential through research and innovation, this department continues producing quality graduates in the field of food and nutrition for the development of the society and to admit the Sustainable Development Goals. The Human Development Research Centre (HDRC) is a leading research organization in Bangladesh. It has earned its reputation and credibility in the domain of socio-economic studies since 1999.  HDRC has accomplished over 250 contemplative studies on multifarious issues. Guided by the objective ‘Humane development through research and action’ HDRC, through its quality research outputs, has achieved a commendable position in the field of development thinking.

 

The memorandum of understanding (“The Memorandum”) has been signed on July 04, 2022 by and between Department of Nutrition and Food Engineering (NFE) under the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, Daffodil International University; Daffodil Smart City, Dhaka 1207, and Human Development Research Centre (HDRC); House no. 05, Road no. 08, Mohammadiya Housing Society, Mohammadpur, Dhaka.

The purpose of the memorandum is to set out the working arrangements so that NFE and HDRC can work together to complete various research studies/assignments/projects, share and exchange expertise and provide support to each other’s development.

 

The agreement has been signed on behalf of NFE by Ms. Fouzia Akter, Assistant Professor and Head of the Department of Nutrition and Food Engineering (NFE), Honorable Registrar Professor Dr. Engr. A. K. M. Fazlul Hoque, Daffodil International University and  Professor Dr. Abu Naser Zafar Ullah, Dean, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, Daffodil International University and on behalf of HDRC Mr. Faisal M Ahamed Director, Mr. Abu Taleb, Director, Finance and Admin and Md.
