DIU Organized RTD on “Effective Traffic Management in Bangladesh: A Catalyst for Inclusive Growth of the Country”

Traffic congestion of Dhaka city is one of the biggest challenges of living in Dhaka. Rapid urbanization and influx of people in the city is creating many uncontrollable transportation problems, led gridlock at the development. In fact, traffic management challenges, hinders the economic growth of the country. It is the high time, we need to select appropriate interventions and innovative utilization of existing system, which will accelerate the initiative to tackle this serious challenge.

As part of social accountability, DIU thinks of the challenges of existing traffic system and based on quality research, DIU has engaged itself to come up with innovative solutions to tackle key challenges of traffic system of the country. DIU has also engaged its intellectual resources to explore possible ways out, to share with policy makers, public sector, academician, transportation expert, private sector. In an attempt to do this, DIU organized a Round Table Discussion (RTD) on “Effective Traffic Management in Bangladesh: A Catalyst for Inclusive Growth of the Country” on 21 October, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Ekattor (71) Milanayatan, Daffodil Tower, 4/2, Sobhanbag, Mirpur Road, Dhaka-1207.


Honorable Minister, Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Mr. Obaidul Quader, MP, graced the program as the Chief Guest while Mr. Khandakar Rakibur Rahman, Executive Director (Additional Secretary), Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority (DTCA), Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges, GoB remained present as the Special Guest. Mr. Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman, Board of Trustees, Daffodil International University presented the Key Note paper while Professor Md. Shamsul Hoque, PhD, BUET was the Key Discussant of the paper.


The program created awareness among the people of the country regarding the causes of traffic congestion and possible ways of reducing it.


The relevant stakeholders including government and private agencies got the opportunity to brainstorm on the issue and find out better solution to the problem


DIU through this initiative could do the policy advocacy solve the problem


The government authority got the opportunity to hear the real causes and probable solution of traffic congestion from sufferers and take measures to reduce the problem
