The Department of Nutrition & Food Engineering (NFE) at Daffodil International University
(DIU), Bangladesh, festively celebrated World Food Safety Day-2023 on 7 th June with the
participation of more than five hundred students. This event, organized by the department, aimed

practices. The celebration of World Food Safety Day-2023 at NFE, DIU, was a grand affair that
brought together students, faculty members, industry experts, and professionals from various
fields related to food safety.
Professor Dr. M. A. Rahim, a fruit scientist, also joined the rally and discussion session with the
faculty members to discuss different food safety issues.
Every year, 600 million people get sick due to the 200 different types of illnesses that can be
transmitted by food. Young people and populations with limited resources are among the most
affected. Foodborne illnesses cause 420,000 preventable deaths every year.
Professor Dr. M. Bellal Hossain, Dean of the Faculty of Allied Health Science, gave his valuable
speech and the role of graduates in ensuring food safety.
This year's theme is "Food Standards Save Lives". Standards not only provide farmers and
processors with guidance on the hygienic handling of food, but also define maximum levels of
additives and contaminants, among other components, that can be safely consumed.
And also, Dr. Nizam Uddin, Head of the Department of Nutrition and Food Engineering, give his
welcome speech on World Food Safety Day.

commitment to promoting food safety and creating awareness among students and the wider
community. By organizing such events, the department continues to play a vital role in nurturing
future professionals who will ensure our food systems' safety and sustainability. Overall, this
